With the 'lock-the-best' innovative feature, the best performing sector is eliminated each year on the anniversary of the Issue Date, over the five-year investment period. At maturity each sectors' return (which may be positive or negative) is added to the performance of each of the other sectors. The final return is based on the average of the sum of the lock-in value of each sector multiplied by the participation rate of 80%.

Different sectors tend to perform at different times. The 'lock-the-best' feature is designed to lock-in the performance of the best performing sectors whilst they are performing well, while allowing time for the remaining sectors to have their day.
